On August 9, Prof. Bin CHEN from Zhejiang University gave an invited talk on understanding biological phenomena from mechanics aspects to IAPME faculty members and graduate students. During his talk, Prof. Chen presented his research on modeling of DNA as elastic rod inlaid with fibrils to explain the flexibility, constructing catch bonds with similar force-lifetime profile upon a constant force-clamp load and studying of the motor force regulation in skeletal muscle contraction.

Currently, Prof. Bin CHEN is a Full Professor of the Department of Engineering Mechanics, Zhejiang University, China. He received his B.S. and M.S. from Tsinghua University, China in 1996 and 1999 respectively, and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, in 2003. Before his professor position in Zhejiang University, he worked as a postdoctoral associate at MIT in USA, Max Planck Institute for Metals Research in Germany, and McMaster University in Canada, and as a research engineer/scientist I at Institute of High Performance Computing in Singapore.
