Prof. Ming Yang(楊明), Assistant Professor of Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Department of Applied Physics, visited IAPME on 11 December 2025. During his visit, he delivered an insightful presentation titled “Rational Design of High-Performance High-k Dielectrics for 2D Electronics”. The seminar was hosted by Prof. Yongqing Cai, who extended the invitation to Prof. Yang.

Prof. Ming Yang received his bachelor’s degree from Fujian Normal University in 2001 and his Ph.D. from National University of Singapore in 2010. Prof. Yang has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers in renowned journals such as Science, Nat. Mater., Nat. Electron., Nature Nanotech., PRL, Adv. Mater., and JACS. His recent research focuses on accelerating the development of functional materials using high-throughput screening techniques, large-scale DFT calculations, and machine learning.

During his talk, Prof. Yang shared the latest progress on the high-throughput screening high-κ dielectrics from a large materials database. The seminar covered the mechanism bridges theory–experiment gaps for the nanoelectronics application of 2D materials.

Through this visit, Prof. Yang expressed enthusiasm for strengthening mutual collaboration on high-throughput design of new materials with staffs from IAPME. Potential collaborative works on first-principles of 2D materials are also promised.
