Prof. Tao Wang is the Professor at the College of Energy Engineering, Zhejiang University. On Feb 10, 2026, he visited IAPME for the IAPME Seminar Series and gave a presentation entitled “Dioxide Removal Carbon(CDR) Research at Zhejiang University”. The seminar was hosted by Prof. Guoxing Sun who extended the invitation to Prof. Tao Wang.

Prof. Tao Wang has long been engaged in research on carbon removal technologies, including direct air capture of carbon dioxide and mineralization storage and Consecutively selected as one of Elsevier’s top 2% global scientists. The advanced carbon capture materials and mineralized curing concrete technologies it developed are applied in large energy enterprise, including China Energy Group and Zhejiang Energy Group and multiple next-generation coal power CCUS benchmark demonstration projects in China.

In his speech, focused on the research of carbon capture . It first introduced the general situation of the College of Energy Engineering, then highlighted three core technologies: flue gas CO₂ capture technology, direct air capture (DAC) technology, and CO₂ mineralization technology, systematically demonstrating the college’s technical reserves and research progress in industrial flue gas treatment, air carbon capture, and mineralization utilization.

The seminar provided attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the latest advancements in Carbon capture technology. This technology received final funding from Tencent’s first “Carbon Quest Program”. He led the development of China’s first industry standard for chemical absorption solutions in the coal-fired power sector, primarily authored important carbon neutrality technology research reports such as China’s CCUS roadmap, and contributed as an author to the Fifth National Assessment Report on Climate Change.
