On 8th September, Prof. Qiaoliang Bao from Monash University, Australia gave an invited talk on his recent achievements on photonic applications of graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) layered materials. Firstly, Prof. Bao illustrated their development of new saturable absorbers for application as passive model locker in a laser system based on 2D graphene and graphene heterojunctions. Secondly, he demonstrated how to construct a high performance photodetector based on the 2D heterojunctions. Furthermore, he also explored the amazing plasmonic behavior of these 2D materials. His report is very interesting and instructive to the audience.
Currently, Prof. Qiaoliang Bao is an associate professor in the Department of Materials Engineering, Monash University, Australia. Prof. Bao received his Ph. D degree from Department of Physics, Wuhan University in 2007. From 2008 to 2012, he has been working on graphene photonics in Graphene Research Centre, National University of Singapore (NUS). In 2012, he was enrolled into Thousand Young Talent Program in China. In 2016, he was awarded Australia ARC Future Fellow and appointed as an associate professor.
