On 24th January, Prof. Kai Wang from Southern University of Science and Technology, China gave an invited talk on semiconductor nanocrystals for bright and efficient light sources and displays. Firstly, Prof. Wang illustrated how they encapsulated the traditional inorganic semiconductor nanoscrystals for bright and robust light emissions. Their products have been utilized in mobile phone screens. Secondly, he demonstrated how to synthesize high performance metal-halide perovskite nanocrystals by tailoring the composition. With these perovskite nanocrystals, high efficiency light emitting diodes were constructed with suitable functional layers.

Prof. WANG Kai is an assistant professor in Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Southern University of Science and Technology of China. His main research interests are semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots / rods and perovskite nanocrystals) and new optoelectronic devices (light emitting diode and photoelectronic detector). According to SCI database, he published over 50 papers and his publications have been cited over 2000 times with an H-Index of 22. He has published one book in English and held 10 patents. Prof. Wang won “The Second Prize of National Technological Innovation Awards” and “The First Prize of Provincial Innovation Awards”. He also received research grants from Guangdong Science and Technology Special Plan for Top-Notch Young Scholars and Young Talent Awards of Science and Technology Innovation in Guangdong Province.
