Prof. Shoucheng ZHANG visited IAPME
Prof. Shoucheng Zhang, a world-renowned American Chinese scientist, visited IAPME and met with our academic staff on 19th Jun 2017. In addition, he also delivered a talk on “Science and Innovation” at the Lui Che Woo College of the University.
Prof. Shoucheng Zhang, JC Jackson and CJ Wood Professor of Physics at Stanford University, discovered “Quantum Spin Hall Effect” in 2007 and it was ranked as one of the significant top 10 scientific breakthroughs of the year by Science Magazine. His innovative research on topological insulators and quantum spin Hall effect has earned him prominent awards in physics including Europhysics Prize, Oliver Buckley Prize, Dirac Medal and Prize, Physics Frontiers Prize and Franklin Medal. Prof. Zhang was selected by the “Thousand Talents Plan” and was recruited as a distinguished professor at Tsinghua University in 2009. He was elected as a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013. He also founded Danhua Capital in the same year and it has now grown to a fund of USD90millions with investment in 12 companies.
