Prof. Eduardo Ruiz-Hitzky Gave a Talk at IAPME
On 29 November, Prof. Eduardo Ruiz-Hitzky from ICMM-CSIC, was invited to give a talk entitled “Introduction to Materials Science Institute of Madrid” at IAPME Seminar.
At the seminar, Prof. Eduardo Ruiz-Hitzky introduced the ICMM (Materials Science Institute of Madrid), which is one of the largest research centres belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC) (https://www.csic.es/en/csic). The research activities at the CSIC are structured in three main areas: SOCIETY, LIFE and MATERIAL, which cover most of the human knowledge, with more than 1500 research groups and 120 centres devoted to them. The area of MATERIAL includes the ICMM together more than 10 other Institutes devoted to Science and Technology of Materials. The ICMM (https://www.icmm.csic.es), was founded in 1986, with the mission to create new fundamental and applied knowledge in materials of high technological impact, their processing and their transfer to the productive sectors at local, national and European scales, and the dissemination of the scientific knowledge. Activities at the ICMM are grouped in three main lines: Materials for a Sustainable World, Materials for Health, and Materials for Emerging Technologies. Finally, he introduce his research group and the recent research activities. The Group of Porous, Hybrid and Bio-hybrid Nanostructured Materials has been developing for over 20 years a continuous research activity on functional porous and organic-inorganic hybrid materials, more recently, on biohybrids, all of them mainly related to silica, zeolites, clays, templated carbonaceous materials and several metal oxides.
Prof. Eduardo Ruiz-Hitzky is currently Ad Honorem Research Professor at ICMM-CSIC, where he has been Founder and First Director of the “New Architectures in Materials Chemistry Department” created in 2010. He dedicated his research activities to the study of nanostructured materials being pioneer in various topics related to hybrid, biohybrid materials and nanoomposites. He is author or co-author of more than 250 ISI web publications, with ca. 10000 citations and h-index > 50, within the topics: Nanostructured Functional Materials; Hybrid, Biohybrid, Intercalation Compounds & Nanocomposites; Layered and Porous Inorganic Solids. Inventor or co-inventor of ca. 20 patents, some of them transferred to Industry. Supervisor of around 20 PhD Thesis and Editor-in-Chief and Associated Editor of the journals: Recent Patents in Nanotechnology and Current Nanoscience, respectively (since 2010). He has been recognized with several international awards including the AIPEA Medal (Tokyo, 2005), the STAS Prize (Académie Royale de Belgique, Belgium, 1976), the National Academy of Sciences Award (Cuba, 2008 & 2017) and various distinctions from the CSIC.
