Prof. Shuzhou Li (李述周), Professor at Nanyang Technological University in School of Materials Science and Engineering, visited IAPME on October 17, 2025. During his visit, he delivered an insightful presentation titled “Electroreduction Reaction Mechanism of Metal-nitrogen-carbon Catalysts through Numerical Simulations” The seminar was hosted by Prof. Yongqing Cai, who extended the invitation to Prof. Li.
Prof. Li received his B.Sc, M.Sc, and PhD in chemistry from Nankai University, Peking University, and University of Wisconsin, respectively. After working as a postdoc in Northwestern University, he joined in Nanyang Technological University. Currently, he is a Professor in School of Materials Science and Engineering, his research interests are theoretical and computational material science. He has been focused on (1) Heterogeneous Catalysis; (2) Artificial Intelligence for Materials Discovery; and (3) Flexible Electronics.
During his talk, Prof. Li shared the latest progress on reaction mechanisms of electrochemical reactions, such as oxygen reduction and CO2 reduction by his research group. The seminar demonstrated a fundamental explanation for long-standing puzzles of an important catalyst, highlighting the importance of considering the dynamic of active sites in reaction mechanisms.
The talk aroused great interests and resonance from the students and Prof. Li expressed willingness in potential collaborations with staffs from IAPME. Potential collaborative works on computational materials are also promised.
