Prof. Zhengwu Jiang (蔣正武) is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Tongji University, visited IAPME on December 3, 2025, as part of the IAPME Seminar Series. During his visit, he delivered an insightful presentation titled “Carbon-Negative Building Materials Production by CO2 Mineralization of Alkaline Industrial Residues: Design, Reaction Mechanism, and Industrial Applications” The seminar was hosted by Prof. Guoxing Sun, who extended the invitation to Prof. Jiang.
Prof. Jiang is an esteemed researcher in the field of building materials, with a focus on cement and concrete. Prof. Jiang has authored over 400 academic papers in domestic and international journals, with more than 100 indexed by the Science Citation Index (SCI) and Engineering Index (EI). His work has garnered over 4,000 citations. Prof. Jiang holds more than 60 national invention patents and has filed over 50 national invention patent applications as the first applicant.
During his talk, Prof. Jiang highlighted CO₂ mineralized all-solid-waste negative-carbon building materials’ significance for solid waste resource utilization and cement concrete industry carbon neutrality. He focused on three core tech challenges (strength formation, production process, durability), presented solutions like cementitious system design and process parameter optimization, verified industrialization via a coal chemical 10,000-tonne demo project, and offered insights into CO₂ sequestration and solid waste high-value utilization.
The seminar provided attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the latest advancements in sustainable cement-based materials, high-performance, and special concretes. Prof. Jiang’s work continues to pioneer sustainable building materials, with his patented innovations having garnered numerous prestigious awards.
