Prof. Mingguo Zheng is a researcher at the Institute of Eco-Environmental and Soil Sciences, Guangdong Academy of Sciences. He visited IAPME on Feb 6, 2026, as part of the IAPME Seminar Series. During his visit, he delivered an insightful presentation titled “New Technologies and Ideas for Ecological Restoration in South China.” The seminar was hosted by Prof. Guoxing Sun, who extended the invitation to Prof. Mingguo Zheng.

Prof. Zheng’s research focuses on the remediation of collapsing gullies and eroded degraded land in southern China, vegetation restoration and soil carbon pool responses in red soil regions, ecological restoration of historically abandoned mines, and resource utilization of industrial solid waste. He is a member of the Soil Erosion, Collapsing Gully Control and Engineering Greening Professional Committees of the Chinese Society of Soil and Water Conservation, as well as a member of the Hydrology and Sediment Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Hydropower Engineering.

His speech covers ecological restoration technologies for various underlying surfaces, starting with soil-based sites and detailing the principles and applications of the South China Flexible Soil and Water Conservation Technology. It then moves to rock-based surface restoration, and presents soil-based nutrient soil R&D and its implications for geological hazard prevention.

The seminar gave attendees a comprehensive overview of advances in soil and water conservation, ecological restoration, remote sensing, soil improvement, vegetation restoration, and carbon sequestration. Prof. Zheng has published over 40 SCI papers, led 4 National Natural Science Foundation General Programs and 1 Guangdong local standard project, and produced consulting reports for the Guangdong Provincial Government.
