Prof. Ding Zhu is a professor in School of Civil Engineering, Shenzhen University. He was the Shenzhen high-level professionals, the local leading-talents from 2009 to 2014. On 12 December, 2017, he gave a talk entitled “Steel-bar protecting coating based on chemically bonded phosphate ceramics” in IAPME. Prof. Ding pointed that corrosion of steel bar which will shorten the service life of the infrastructures is the main problem in durability of concrete structures. He introduced an inorganic protecting coating on the surface of steel bars, based on chemically bonded phosphate ceramics (CBPC), whose toughness can be improved by implanting short PVA fibers. Then the CBPC fiber composites was used as the protecting coating on the surface of steel bars. The results show that the coating has an excellent binding with the steel bar and concrete. The PVA fiber can improve the ductility of CBPC coating, and enhance cracking load and cracking displacement. According to the microanalysis, it is inferred that a layer of passivation film might be formed on the steel surface, which can provide a good protection for steel bars from corrosion. Therefore, the CBPC coating could be a very promising steel protective coating, to prolong the service life of the concrete structures.
