On 28/03/2019, Prof. Shihe YANG from the Guangdong Key Lab of Nano-Micro Material Research, Peking University gave an invited talk on “Nanomaterials and Interfaces for Efficient Solar Energy Conversion” at IAPME. More than 50 faculty members and PhD students from IAPME attended this seminar. At the beginning, Prof. Yang summarized their research work on nano materials for energy harvesting. They demonstrated that high quality graphene quantum dots could be prepared. The light emission color of these graphene quantum dots could be tailored in the whole visible range. Subsequently, Prof. Yang showed that the electron injection from metal-halide perovskite to TiO2 could be enhanced by modifying the interface with the graphene quantum dots.  He also discussed how to make high performance perovskite solar cells with NiO and carbon-based charge carrier extractors. At last, Prof. Yang presented some of their results on the development of low-dimensional electrocatalysts and photocatalysts.

Prof. Shihe YANG received his B.S. in Polymer Chemistry/Physics from Sun Yat-Sen University in China and Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry (with the Nobel Laureate Prof. Richard E. Smalley). He did post-doctoral research at Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Toronto (with another Nobel Laureate Prof. John C. Polanyi) before joining the faculty at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he is currently a full professor. He is now a Professor and Director of Guangdong Key Lab of Nano-Micro Material Research, Shenzhen Graduate School, Peking University, Shenzhen. His research interests include chemistry and physics of clusters, fullerenes/metallofullerenes, novel nanomaterials chemistry, new generation solar cells, solar fuels, and other energy conversion devices. His current interest is focused on solar energy nanoscience and nanotechnology. He is the author/co-author of over 550 international journal publications and ~10 patents with > 32,000 citations (h-index > 95). His scientific research has been recognized by, among others, two State Natural Science Awards. He is currently an editorial board member of several international journals including ACS Advanced Materials and Interfaces (ACS), ChemNanoMat (VCH-Wiley), Sustainable Energy (Hans Publishers), International Journal of Nanotechnology (Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.), etc.
