The Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAPME) at the University of Macau was established in 2014, became an independent academic unit in 2016, and was officially renamed as an institute (names are different in Chinese but same in English) in 2019. The institute spans over 6,000 square meters and features a Materials Testing, Characterization, and Preparation Center (equipped with SEM, TEM, Raman, FIB, XRD, PPMS, femtosecond laser, XPS, ultra-low temperature systems, PLD, ultra-clean room, device fabrication, etc.), as well as a high-performance computing platform. It offers a balanced focus on basic and applied research, serving as a unique entity bridging pure science and engineering. This interdisciplinary institute leverages the University of Macau’s diverse research strengths and expertise to provide solutions for future technological challenges. Its core research areas currently include:
- Photoelectric‧Electro-optical High Efficiency Conversion Materials
- Energy Storage and Catalytic Energy Materials
- Energy Saving, Environment and New Functional Materials
- Quantum Information and Micro-nano Technology
- Quantum Biomedical Technology, etc.
